Guest house insurance news - Guesthouses prepare for summer
Guest house insurance policyholders have expressed "cautious optimism" that the effects of a weakened pound abroad could lead to an upturn in the numbers of Brits seeking to holiday at home this coming summer.
So-called staycations increased in popularity in 2009 and now Tourism South East has said that as many as three-quarters of UK holidaymakers may be planning to holiday at home this year.
However, guest house insurance customers are wary of getting too excited about the trend, because the majority of bookings have so far been for caravan and camping sites.
One guesthouse owner commented, "We had a great year last year - we had an increase in bookings, this time last year. We were actually 60% up on bookings although by the end of the year that levelled off somewhat,
"Indications are that people enjoyed what they had last year, by way of staycations - despite the weather. Our bookings are at the moment 20% up on this time last year."
However, small business owners who fail to have proper guest house insurance in place for the summer could find that they are left unprepared come the inevitable early-summer surge in bookings.
