Guest house insurance news - Banksy exhibition a boon to B&B owners
The Banksy exhibition in Bristol proved to be a real boon to guest house insurance holders in Bristol who experienced an unprecedented surge in bookings during the show, which was jointly held by Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery.
The Banksy vs Bristol exhibition, which for the first time saw a Bristol gallery ranked in the world's top 30 for visitor admissions, drew in around 16,000 visitors each day and around 308,709 visitors in total between its opening date of June 13 and its closing date of August 31, many of whom visited Bristol solely to see the Banksy show.
The advantages to guest house insurance holders were obvious; around 55,000 extra guest house and hotel beds were needed to cope with the surge in tourist numbers.
One guest house insurance policyholder commented, "If I knew what Banksy looked like, I'd give him a hug. Never before have I had full bookings right through to September.
"In fact, I'd planned to take a break this year, but once news of the exhibition broke, I knew that it would be good for business so renewed my liability cover, washed my linen and gave the place a good clean.
"Business was so good that I've been on an extended holiday."
